What is a training contract?
A training contract is a learnership contract for 3 years or more (depending on your qualifications when you join the firm). During this time, you will serve your traineeship with a registered auditing firm, as required by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
Who can apply for a training contract?
If you are studying towards, or have successfully completed, your under-graduate and/or post-graduate studies towards the Chartered Accountant (South Africa) CA (SA) qualification, you can apply for a training contract with PricewaterhouseCoopers.
What are our selection criteria?
To be eligible for a training contract, you should be studying towards a BCom in Accounting, a BCompt, a Bachelor in Accountancy or a Business Science degree that leads to a qualification as a CA (SA) at any SAICA accredited South African university. We look for candidates who have achieved consistent passes at University and who perform well in all areas of their lives. Self-confidence, effective communication skills, a teamwork orientation and a display of initiative would strengthen your application.
What should I expect?
During your traineeship, you will be applying the theory learned at university to the practical environment. You will be working in a challenging business environment, travelling to clients on a daily basis and interacting with people on various levels of expertise and experience. Expect to work hard but also to gain a wealth of experience on best business practices, managing people and financial reporting.
How do I apply for a Training Contract?
Students already studying towards a Chartered Accounting qualification can apply to PricewaterhouseCoopers for a Training Contract. You will be eligible to commence a Training Contract in the year following the year in which you complete your Honours or Certificate in the Theory of Accounting (CTA). For example, if you will be completing your CTA at the end of 2009 you will commence your Training Contract in 2010.
