Strategic focus areas

PwC professionals working holding two objects

Our strategy is intentionally simple, executable, and measurable.  It’s built on a foundation of embedding quality in everything we do.

In reimagining our future together, we’ve adopted a strategy that will enable us to reimagine the way we do business and execute on this vision.

Our Africa firm strategy was refreshed at the beginning of the FY20 financial year to reflect the changing challenges and opportunities caused by a constantly changing business environment.

As with everything we do, the strategy remains underpinned by our core values and our purpose, to build trust in society and to solve important problems.

Our strategy has been set for a four-year period and based on five strategic focus areas, all underpinned by quality in everything we do. We refer to this as the "5+1" framework.

Strategic Focus Areas

Quality in everything we do

We have focused on quality this year by...

  • Building a quality culture with consistent messaging on quality;
  • Improving our internal and external inspection results;
  • Responding appropriately to COVID-19 as it relates to guidance and consultations around the impact on our clients as well as their financial results.

Sharpen our market focus

We have sharpened our market focus by...

  •  Relaunching our industry programme with a strong focus on going to market through our industry efforts;
  • Enhancing the quality of the thought leadership that we release in the market, including webinars;
  • Launching Experience Centres in all three of our market areas, placing us in a position to deliver solutions to clients in a unique and impactful way, and delivering on our global platforms; and
  • Securing some iconic wins in all our lines of service during the year, with all areas of our firm are working closer together in delivering our integrated solutions to help solve some of our clients' most complex challenges in a COVID-19 world.

Be commercial

We continue to be commercial by...

  • Remaining financially resilient despite difficult circumstances;
  • Improved uptake of tools, technologies as well as work performed by Service Delivery Centres; and
  • Salesforce adoption actively driven to increase ability to respond to opportunities and leverage relationships.

Digitise our business

We have made significant strides in the digitisation of our business by…

  • Firstly, laying the foundations of digital upskilling through the launch of the Our Tomorrow programme;
  • Launching and embedding Oracle throughout Africa, making PwC Africa the first PwC territory with the full end-to-end BOS suite implemented and further embedding BOS during the year; and
  • Taking our training offerings, NED webinars, series for clients (including webcasts and webinars) and interactions with students as part of recruitment to virtual platforms.

Inspire our people

We keep the well-being of our people top of mind and continue to inspire them by...

  • Continuously enhancing our COVID-19 response and caring for our people;
  • Using our technology to make a meaningful contribution to our people’s development; and
  • Focusing on improving our people diversity and inclusion.

Greater societal purpose

We continue to contribute to our greater societal purpose through...

  • The continued corporate responsibility efforts and positive social initiatives where we see our people playing a role in uplifting our communities;
  • The response to COVID-19 where we have seen our partners and staff step up and become involved in various initiatives; and
  • Our New World, New Skills programme.

Adapting to a changing world
Our success depends on recognising the world is constantly changing, and responding with plans to adapt accordingly. To this end, we’re committed to continue offering our clients value, higher-quality and technology-enabled solutions. For our people, who are central to everything we do, we constantly seek to grow and engage them, and acknowledge the difference they make.

Monitoring and evaluation
Having clearly-articulated strategic focus areas enables us to periodically check in and see how we are doing against the targets we’ve set ourselves, without losing sight of our ultimate purpose — To build trust in society and solve important problems.

Quality

The auditing and consulting professions are under increased scrutiny, which is why we’ve refreshed our perspective on how we embed quality into everything we do.

Delivering quality in our work gives us our licence to operate; without it, we can’t realise our purpose.

Quality is about bringing the best experience to our people, clients and society, which challenges us to review how we work with each other, how we lead and inspire our people, and how we generate new value for all our stakeholders.
