Our culture, purpose and values

Our purpose is why we exist. Our values define how we behave.

Our purpose is to build trust in society and solve important problems, and as with everything we do, this underpins our strategy. To us, these aren’t just words. Our purpose statement serves as a guiding principle, aligning the focus of our people and directing the decisions we make and actions we take.

It’s reflected in our leadership and governance structures, and embraced throughout the firm (and the PwC global network). It informs the clients and work we accept, and drives the quality we deliver across our business.

COVID-19

Within a few weeks, COVID-19 culminated in an unprecedented global health, humanitarian, and economic crisis. Almost overnight, people all over the world faced severe disruptions at both work and home. Concerns over the health and safety of loved ones and looming financial hardships were suddenly paramount.

As leaders of a professional services firm with over 5,000 employees in South Africa, our immediate concern and responsibility is for the welfare of our people. We took a number of steps to prioritize their well-being, including closing our offices.

With the right tools and guidance, our people were able to quickly adapt to working remotely and continue to serve our clients and stakeholders with the level of quality that we and they have come to expect.

Due to the unwavering commitment of our people, we have been able to meet the critical needs of our clients and stakeholders. In turn, we have committed to continue to make investments similar to pre-pandemic levels in our people and technology—because regardless of today’s challenges, these investments are essential to serving our clients and achieving our purpose in the long run.
