A tech-enabled solution for sustainability reporting

PwC’s Value Chain Sustainability Insights tool harnesses the power of data analytics to quantify and analyse their scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.

The PwC Solvers Challenge is an annual competition that encourages PwC teams from around the world to develop innovative solutions to the most pressing challenges faced by businesses and society today. In 2022, the PwC Africa's Net Zero team’s innovative Value Chain Sustainability Insights tool awarded them first place in this global challenge.

This reporting tool harnesses the power of data analytics to quantify and analyse their scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. This, in turn, empowers organisations to make informed decisions and take decisive action in selecting suppliers who align with their sustainability goals. With its self-service approach, the tool requires no implementation, eliminating both implementation costs and lengthy lead times. Additionally, the tool's web-based SaaS model and low annual cost make it accessible to a wider range of companies.

As the world works towards a net zero economy to meet the objectives of the Paris Agreement, organisations are faced with the formidable challenge of decarbonising their operations. While some companies have made strides in understanding and reducing their operational emissions (Scope 1 and 2), mapping and managing value chain emissions (Scope 3) remains a significant challenge. Scope 3 emissions often constitute the largest portion of an organisation's carbon footprint, accounting for, on average, 69% across all industries.
