PwC named global leader in Sustainability Strategy Consulting Services

10 May 2023

Johannesburg, May 2023 — PwC has been named as a leader in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide ESG/Sustainability Strategy Consulting Services 2023 Vendor Assessment (February 2023, IDC #US49044922).

This evaluation assesses the capabilities and business strategies of many business consulting firms’ ESG-strategy-related offerings. It is based on a comprehensive framework and a set of parameters expected to be most conducive to success in providing ESG strategy services during both the short and long term. A significant component of this evaluation is the inclusion of business consulting buyers’ perceptions of the key characteristics and the capabilities of these consulting providers, both directly from the vendors’ clients and through a survey.

Author of the IDC MarketScape report, Dan Versace, says, “Worldwide, providers are generally perceived as being able to excel at integrating their services into organisational sustainability structures, understanding the unique needs of a client’s business, and providing necessary subject matter experts. They are also considered very capable of meeting project timelines and providing for an efficient transfer of knowledge and best practices.”

The IDC MarketScape report states that: “PwC approaches ESG transformation projects through a three-pronged approach, managing risk and opportunities, building trust, and creating value through better decision making. Taking these areas together, PwC is able to remain agile and adapt to the changing needs of its clients in sustainability strategy engagements. PwC has prioritised climate-related issues due to the increased awareness of climate change and the risk posed by failing to act on it now.”

Commenting on PwC’s strengths, the MarketScape says, “PwC’s strengths lie in its net-zero strategy offerings. With a proven track record of successful engagements with organisations across industry and maturity levels, PwC’s offerings in the net-zero space, including its managed services approach, are a key differentiator.”

On when to consider PwC’s expertise, the IDC MarketScape report further says: “With its subject matter expertise in business consulting and risk management, and its suite of managed service offerings, PwC would be able to serve clients with low-level to mid-level ESG maturity.”

Lullu Krugel, PwC Africa ESG Lead, says: “We are delighted to be named as a leader in the IDC MarketScape as to us, the development of effective ESG strategies and its implementation is more than a tick-box exercise. Based on our expertise and track record of working with some of Africa’s, and the world’s, largest corporates, we have the opportunity to make a difference for our clients’ businesses and the societies in which we work and live.

Our passionate community of solvers will continue to provide value when it comes to matters of sustainability as they combine real world experience with a commitment to change. This will enable us and our stakeholders to create a better tomorrow.”
