Infrastructure, government and utilities

There is increased focus across Africa on supporting growth within communities through infrastructure projects developed through partnerships between the public and private sectors.

PwC’s Infrastructure Advisory practice is an industry leader in assisting clients to develop strategies designed to optimise the balance between the policy objectives of the public sector and the business focus of the private sector to deliver efficient, transparent, cost-effective solutions. We work with both the public and private sectors to solve the complexities involved in the financing and delivery of large scale infrastructure projects and infrastructure related services.

We bring deep experience

  • PwC has been at the forefront of the development and financing of infrastructure projects both globally and in Africa, covering sectors including power and utilities, transport and accommodation. We have worked with private equity and infrastructure funds, governments, international development finance institutions and agencies, utilities, regulators and other key stakeholders to deliver sector reform, restructuring, project finance solutions as well as infrastructure procurement.
  • We have extensive experience in the development and financing of large scale greenfield infrastructure projects, including Independent Power Producer (IPP) projects, Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) and other infrastructure projects advising both government and private sector clients. We also specialise in advising on the disposal and acquisition of brownfield infrastructure assets across the African continent.

How we can help you

How we can help with project finance

  • We understand, advise on and solve the complexities involved in transactions, financing and policy at the interface between the public and private sectors. Whether raising funding for infrastructure projects or procuring private sector partners for our public sector clients, we deliver solutions that fund energy generation and distribution, new roads, modernised hospitals and improved rail services, and which regenerate communities.
  • We reconcile investors' need for profit with the requirements of Government for political and financial transparency.
  • As an independent adviser, we engineer a truly competitive bidding process, and when advising private sector bidders, we help them to develop structures that allow them to access local and international funds.
  • Our project finance advisory service delivers value through strategic options analysis, optimal capital structuring and valuation of assets and companies using robust project finance models, identifying and raising finance, and providing support to financial close.
  • We have acted as lead financial advisers to private sector developers and investors seeking to implement IPP and PPP projects, bringing our direct insights and experience in the sourcing of finance from institutional funders, commercial banks, private infrastructure investors and capital markets.
